David was the son (first child) of Edith & Stan Edwards, and brother to Barbara & Jo.
He was in the high achievers class at Tottenham County School, taking "A" levels one year ahead and winning a scholarship to Exeter University to study Physics.
After obtaining his degree he began as a cancer researcher at the Royal Marsden in Surrey in 1965, but on 15 November of that year he died in hospital following a head injury from a road crash on 12 November with a moped when also riding a moped. He was not wearing a crash helmet; they were not compulsory at that time.
